that is a tough one, but i would probably have to say Mario, but luigi could steal the limenight soon, what with a luigi mansion being trademarked...

I love them both. Mario for his herioc efforts and general awesomeness. Luigi for his humour and ability to prove he's brave despite Mario's shadow over him.

Both of them are barely characters, with only repeated history to merit their iconic presence. I'd say Mario, since he stars in more and better games; and red is a more passionate colour.

You couldn't use Luigi in SMB3, therefore he never killed the sun. The answer's pretty clear here.
